One of the largest and most rapidly growing sectors of the market for PEX compounds is the production of multilayer pipes, e.g. co-extruded pipes PEX/Al/PEX. These pipes offer the end user the mechanical strength of metal pipes while eliminating the known deficiencies of corrosion, considerable weight and electrical conductivity with its potentially devastating effect.

Multi-layer pipes are essentially a metallic pipe that is tightly bonded to an inner plastic pipe and an outer plastic coating. Specialized machinery is required for production of these pipes. Polidan® compounds are well suited for use in this machinery thanks to their excellent consistency in output and diameter; necessary characteristics needed to accurately form the aluminium layer over the plastic pipe.
